Chungnam Seaweed, which has been captivating taste buds worldwide, has proven to be a hit in Taiwan as well.

The provincial government announced on the 1st that it achieved significant results at '2026 Food Taipei,' held from the 24th to the 27th of last month at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center in Taiwan, conducting export consultations worth a total of $1.73 million and signing $800,000 in Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) for exports.

Food Taipei is Asia's premier specialized food exhibition hosted by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council. This year, it was held alongside related industry exhibitions such as Foodtech Taipei and Taipei Pack, drawing participation from over 1,800 companies worldwide.

During the exhibition, the provincial government collaborated with the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation's Korea Pavilion to support the participation of the province's leading seaweed processing companies, including Choikang Food and Byul Food, showcasing the excellence of Chungnam seaweed to the Taiwanese and Southeast Asian markets.

Buyers from various countries, including Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and China, showed strong interest in seaweed snacks and low-sodium, high-quality seasoned seaweed products, driven by the growing healthy snack trend. They also highly praised the hygienic production processes and quality competitiveness.

Taiwan is a market where exports of Chungnam seafood have been rapidly increasing recently; the province's seafood export value to Taiwan surged by 40.7%, growing from $7.6 million in 2024 to $10.7 million in 2025, demonstrating remarkable growth.

Through this exhibition, the provincial government intends to further accelerate its penetration into Taiwan, a strategic market for expanding exports into Southeast Asia.

Kim Yong, Director of the Fishing Village Industry Division, stated, "We were able to reaffirm the competitiveness of seaweed—which ranks as the top single export item among South Korea's agricultural and fishery products—in both the Taiwanese and Southeast Asian markets." He added, "Moving forward, we will actively support seafood processing companies, including seaweed producers, in entering overseas markets and expanding exports by backing their participation in international exhibitions and utilizing customized marketing."
