Chungcheongnam-do Province officially began operations of the 'Chungnam Shelter for Foreign Workers' with an opening ceremony in Eupnae-dong, Dangjin City, on the 11th.
Kim Jong-su, Director of the Provincial Population Strategy Bureau, and provincial officials, provincial council members, and staff from foreign worker support centers attended the event, which included an introduction to the shelter project, a progress report, a tour of the facilities, and a plaque unveiling ceremony.
The shelter was established to provide temporary accommodation and meals for foreign workers under the Employment Permit System who have lost their jobs, supporting their stable settlement in the community until they find re-employment.
Dangjin YMCA will be in charge of operations, providing practical support such as job placement assistance and welfare service connections.
The newly opened shelter has a floor area of 198㎡ with four bedrooms and can accommodate up to 20 people.
It will also offer life guidance, job information, and counseling to help residents adapt to the local community.
With the opening of this shelter in Dangjin, the province has secured another support base for foreign workers in addition to the existing one in Cheonan, establishing a more balanced foundation for foreign workforce settlement throughout the province.
The province plans to continue improving the welfare of foreign workers and encouraging their long-term residency to realize a 'Chungnam, a Foreigner-Friendly City.'
A provincial official said, "The province established this shelter to provide a strong foundation for foreign workers, who sustain our local industries, so they can get back on their feet after the hardship of losing a job in a faraway land." They added, "Centered around the shelter, we will strengthen our support system, including providing re-employment opportunities, connecting them with welfare services, and offering emotional support. We will also discover and implement various policies to secure a stable foreign workforce and maintain the provincial industrial ecosystem."
