Chungcheongnam-do Province announced on the 27th that it is accelerating the establishment of a foundation for the influx of international talent and the stable settlement of foreigners in the region, as it fully implements forward-looking immigration policies.
The province established and began operating the 'Chungcheongnam-do Foreigner Global Center' (hereinafter referred to as the Center) in March. This Center serves as the command center for the province's foreigner policy sector, acting as a dedicated organization for comprehensively and systematically establishing and executing policies related to foreigners.
According to statistics on foreign residents released by the Ministry of Interior and Safety (as of November 1, 2023), the number of foreign residents in the province was 155,589, recording the highest proportion of foreign population nationwide, and is increasing annually.
The province established the Center to proactively respond to such demographic changes and promote the stable settlement and social integration of foreigners in the region.
The Center is pursuing various support programs that encompass the entire cycle, from attracting foreign talent to their settlement.
First, to attract excellent foreign talent, it holds overseas recruitment briefings and supports customized talent recruitment and visa conversion tailored to the needs of universities and businesses in the province.
It also operates Korean language education, life and culture education, and cultural experience programs to help foreigners adapt early, and strives to build communication networks for exchange between Koreans and foreigners.
It also operates a 'Foreigner Supporters' group, composed of foreigners, to promote the province's foreigner policies from a foreign perspective and provide various opportunities for participation, such as gathering opinions and proposing policies.
Simultaneously, the Center is also implementing projects for the economic self-sufficiency and employment linkage of international students.
Through the Chungnam-type Work-Study Dual System, it supports international students' part-time employment and field training, operates technical training programs based on the demands of businesses in the province, and plans to provide visa conversion counseling and consulting for foreigners hoping to find employment and settle.
The province plans to continue strengthening cooperation with businesses, universities, and related organizations to diversify its foreign talent attraction strategies, and continuously promote policy development and support programs for the social integration of Koreans and foreigners.

A provincial official stated, "We expect that by actively attracting foreigners through the Chungnam Foreigner Global Center and supporting their stable settlement in the region, we can proactively address the population decline issue caused by low birth rates and an aging population, and inject vitality into the regional economy." He added, "We will continue to do our best to diversify our foreign talent attraction strategies and promote policies for social integration."
