A green light has been lit for the export of seafood products produced by small and medium-sized enterprises in Chungcheongnam-do to China.
The province announced on the 28th that it conducted export consultations worth $4.61 million and signed $2.47 million in export contracts at the '2026 SIAL SHANGHAI' held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) from the 18th to the 20th.
Over 55,000 food companies from 75 countries participated in this year's exhibition. During this period, the province operated a joint promotional pavilion with Chungnam Techno Park to help maritime and fisheries-related companies enter overseas markets and strengthen their export capabilities.
The province and Chungnam Techno Park collaborated with the province's overseas office in Shanghai, China, to conduct product promotions and export consultations, and also supported consultation sessions inviting foreign buyers.
The six participating companies heavily promoted products catering to wellness and vegan trends, including: △Haecheongjeong Co., Ltd. (seaweed and kelp noodles) △Fishery Corporation Premium Gim Co., Ltd. (fish fillet seaweed snacks) △West Sea Pen Shell Fishery Cooperative (pen shells) △Salt Bank Co., Ltd. (pine pollen salt) △Daecheon Flavored Seaweed Co., Ltd. & Taekyung Food (gimbap seaweed).
Among these companies, Salt Bank Co., Ltd. is simultaneously carrying out localization projects in three Chinese regions, including Guangzhou, following its entry into the Ouya Department Store in Changchun, China, through last year's support program.
Fishery Corporation Premium Gim Co., Ltd. successfully entered the offline stores of Freshippo (Hema Fresh, a premium fresh food market operated by Alibaba with 3,000 stores in China) using its patent for layered seaweed snacks.
Simultaneously, to target China's rapidly growing online market, the company is expanding its presence by entering Meituan (the country's No. 1 delivery platform), a representative online distribution platform.
The province and Chungnam Techno Park plan to build a follow-up support system to help participating companies overcome difficulties in entering the Chinese market and expanding future exports.
A provincial official stated, "We provided opportunities to meet with overseas buyers so that local companies could set their overseas marketing directions through the exhibition, and we supported them in securing the necessary certifications for exporting to individual countries," adding, "We will continue to develop more programs to pioneer overseas sales channels and expand exports for small and medium-sized enterprises."
