Framework plans have been set to develop the province into 5 regions of coastal areas, Naepo culture, historic hot springs, Baekje culture, and green growth aimed at promoting Chungcheongnam-do Tourism.
On November 16, Chungcheongnam-do held a final reporting session in the provincial government building regarding research services on the “5th Tourism Development Plans for Chungcheongnam-do Regions” and discussed the visions and goals of the project to develop Chungcheongnam-do tourist attractions.
According to the tourism development plans presented by Seil Engineering at the request of Chungcheongnam-do, the vision has been defined as “Popular tourism cherishing Chungcheongnam-do’s indigenous culture that gives hope to residents and tourists.” The goals selected were popular tourism, welfare tourism, recreational tourism, and industrial tourism.
As for the plan by zone, the coastal zone including Taean, Boryeong, Seocheon, etc., is to be developed into “coastal recreational tourist spots” around the west coastal tourist attractions and corporate cities of tourism and leisure; the Naepo cultural tourist zones such as Seosan, Dangjin-gun, Yesan and Hongseong are to be developed into “historic and cultural tourist spots” linking the human, religious, and folkloric resources of the Naepo cultural zone to coastal tourism resources.
Furthermore, the historic hot spring tourism zone of Asan and Cheonan is to be developed into “cultural and recreational tourist spots” that bind the humanistic and cultural resources of allegiance and natural resources of hot springs together, the Baekje cultural tourism zone of Gongju, Buyeo, Cheongyang, etc., into “historic and ecological tourist spots” linking Baekje’s historic and cultural resources to the Geumgang ecological axis, and the green growth tourist zone of Gyeryong, Nonsan City, Geumsan, etc., into “green growth, cultural tourist spots” that seek the development and inheritance of the pleasant environment of forest resources. The current plans are high on the agenda of Chungcheongnam-do’s tourism development projects, which are in accord with the “3rd Framework Plans for Tourism Development” (2011~2021) being implemented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; they will be finalized through consultations with the government. The finalized plans will serve as guidelines for formulating plans by city and county for the designation and development of tourist spots through a crystallization process suited to the regional situations within the province.
