Therefore almost tens of millions of tourists visit Daecheon Beach every year and it is told as one of the world-class resorts in the Yellow Sea coastal areas.

Daecheon has a great beach with the length of 3.5Km and the average width of 100m. The curious rocks and stones in the southern beach make this beach more fantastic and outrageous. The water of proper temperature gives chance for swimmers to take pleasant sea bathing. And Daecheon is the only beach formed with sands from shells in Asia. This kind of sands are very soft and easily washed away from human body.

Boryeong City concentrates on cultivating the peculiarity of Daecheon Beach. As such an effort, Boryeong City developed the Boryeong Mudpack Products. Tourists may try those mud products of world-best quality in the Mudpack House, which are made of the mud rigidly chosen in Boryeong seashore. Besides, Boryeong tries to overcome seasonal limitation centered only on summer by providing attractive winter events to visitors. Nowadays, more and more people come to Boryeong and enjoy the mood of winter beach and sea.

 

And Boryeong runs temporary city hall and police station in the beach for the visitors’ conveniences during summer season. Many organizations in Boryeong also provide voluntary services for the visitors.
Daecheon Beach might be divided into 2 areas. One is a new square area named as “The Square of A Lady” where a statue of a sea lady is. The other is an old square area called as “The Square of Citizen’s Charter Tower”. Both squares are located at the entrances to the beach.

The Citizen’s Charter Tower was constructed as a symbol expressing the strong wills of citizens of Boryeong to preserve this precious and fantastic natural environment. This tower is a modern monument with 9.4m height and many visitors to the beach use this square as a meeting place. To the south of this tower are located many cafes while many Korean Sushi restaurants stand in a line to the north of the tower.

The Statue of a Sea Lady has been there for a long time as a symbol of Daecheon Beach and this bronze statue of a lady has been regarded to represent the Korean women’s characteristics. This square also provides a meeting place for people.
Daecheon Beach established the Sculpture Park for the first time on the beach and offers works of art to enjoy. This Park is not only a cultural sector for citizens but also an outdoor exhibition space for the local artists.

Daecheon Harbor
Daecheon Harbor is a collecting and distributing center for diverse marine products located at a distance of 1km from the Daecheon Beach. Tourists can buy fresh marine products such as crabs, squids, turban shells, kinds of fish and big shrimps which are caught in the clean sea of Boryeong. And tourists can find tasty and chewy Korean squids being dried in the corner of the pier. There is a famous traditional market of marine products along with the pier where tourists can buy fresh marine products at a low price.
Moreover, Daecheon is an important hub of sea transportation. Many sea-lanes to islands such as Oeyeon-do, Sapsi-do Nok-do, Wonsan-do, etc. start from Daecheon Harbor and the harbor is busy with many tourists who will go aboard a passenger boat or a ferry especially during weekends and vacation seasons. Tourists also can lent a boat for fishing.
