2009.08.26(수) | CNnews (이메일주소:chungnamdo@korea.kr; chungnamdo@korea.kr)

Taean Treasure Ship was awakened from its Millenium sleep and disclosed its hidden part. More than 22,000 items of Goryeo Celadon porcelain have been found near the Taean Treasure Ships since a fisher found it and reported to the authorities concerned.

According to the Korean National Maritime Museum of Cultural Heritage Administration(CHA) and Chungnam Province, Taean Treasure Shipwreck was salvaged from under the sea in front of the Daeseom Island and moved to the near workshop for salinization procedure and now is under preservation treatment procedure.
Disappointingly, Taean Treasure shipwreck couldn't be completely restored to the original shape due to its severe abrasion and corrosion by tidal currents. But, we can imagine the size and shape of the ship by its long ship building plate remained.

The total size of that treasure ship could be estimated to be at least 15m long judging from the fact that the remaining longest ship building plate amounts to 8.21m.
Considering that the length of the ‘Wando’ treasure ship which had been found in 1984 with more than 30,000 artifacts was only 9m, Taean treasure ship must have a large size of hull. A person concerned of the CHA said,“To Taean treasury ship, did new technology such as the usage of longer plate was applied and a ship by this technology was considerably different from ordinary ships of the Goryeo Dynasty.” And he evaluated Taean treasury ship would be very important source material in studying the history of ship development in the middle of the Goryeo Dynasty.
Taean treasure ship had been wrecked during her voyage with volumes of supreme celadon porcelain loaden and 23,000 cultural relics including lots of porcelain of the national treasure class were salvaged as yet.
