Chungcheongnam-do

The construction has started of a new town that will hold the Chungnam provincial office. It has been three years and four months since the lot was decided to include the area in Sapgyo-eup, Hongseong-gun on February 12, 2006. The new town will be built on a lot of 9,938,000㎡ and on a budget of 2,162 billion won by 2020 to accommodate a population of 100,000. People will begin moving into the new town in late 2012. The new provincial office, which is expected to be a landmark in the new town, will have two stories underground and seven stories above the ground, a lot area of 231,406㎡ and a building area of 102,331㎡ by late 2012.

The new town will be created as a low-carbon green town where the breath of nature is felt and has become an energy source. Its ratio of green zone will be 50% or higher, and population density will be 100/ha or lower. In the green town that can double as a huge forest, they will work hard to generate zero carbon emissions and actively introduce new and renewable energy facilities.

Connected with a radial ring pattern roads network, the new town will have four districts of administration, business, commerce, and residence. The administration district will hold the provincial office, educational agency, and police station, and the business park will hold concerned agencies, organizations and mass media. The commercial area will be distributed among the complexes to promote local economy, and the residential district will hold 100,000 residents, consisting 21.2% of detached houses and 78.8% of apartment houses.

The year of 2012 when the provincial office will move to the new town will mark the beginning of Chungnam's metropolitan administration era. By 2020 when the new town will be completed, it will grow into a core city accommodating its population of 100,000 along with 200,000 others from Hongseong and Yesan, for a total of 300,000.
