Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do and the Daesan Regional Maritime Affairs and Port Office held a ground-breaking ceremony for an international passenger ship terminal with around 300 people attending, including Mayor of Seosan, shipping agents, and local residents at the quay 1 of Daesan harbor, Daesan-eup, Seosan on February 27, 2014.

The international passenger ship terminal, which performed the first shoveling that day, is a main facility for operating international passenger ships that connectsDaesan harbor in Seosan with Longyan harbor in Longcheong city, Shantung, China. Of the international passenger ship terminals which will play the role of international gateway for the first time in Chungcheong region, one passenger terminal of the building area of 7176妊 and a quay will be constructed with the government expenditure of 38,200,000,000 won by the end of 2015.

When the international passenger ship terminal is completed and fast-sailing ships operate, the time for travelling between Daesan harbor and China will be shortened to 5 hours. This will help Daesan harbor to become an international trade port by attracting many of passengers and freight that have been using existing aircraft and passenger and freight ships.

Until now the freight dealt at Daesan harbor was limited to exporting products and the international awareness of the harbor was low. There was also a shortage of land and marine transportation infrastructure, so ports and airports of other regions had to go abroad.

When international fast-sailing ships travel between the Daesan harbor and Longyan harbor six times a week, it is expected that 436,800 people (349,440Koreans, and 87,360Chinese) will use it yearly, and 49,920TEU (1TEU=1 container) of freight will be handled. It is estimated that the production effect triggered by the province's tourism will be 280 billion won per year and the employment effect will be 5,600new jobs, which will play a part in invigorating the local economy.

The historic and cultural sites of Chungcheongnam-do, which has specially distinguished scenery, mingled with the marine tourism, will play a role as the base port of the Pan Yellow Sea region.
