The Chungcheong-do’s export of marine products stood at $56,692,000 in 2015, a 19.2% increase compared to the preceding year.

According to the Korea Customs Administration, the country’s export of marine products was pegged at $1,912,336,000, a 0.7% y-o-y decrease.

For Chungcheongnam-do, the share of marine products in the entire export of agricultural/marine products increased sharply to 25% in 2015 compared to 9% in 2010 and 20% in 2014. It shows that the competitiveness and value of the province’s marine products are rising in the midst of unfavorable export conditions.

Dried laver was at the top of the province’s marine product export list with $47,436,000 , accounting for 84% of the total marine product export.

The Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government will provide support for the development of new dried laver-processed items including seasoned ones and those used as snacks while striving to explore new items for export for diversification.

As for the export destinations of the province’s marine products, the United States ranked no. 1 (25%), followed by China (21%) and Japan (10%). It also appears that the export to China and Thailand increased noticeably (i.e. by 122% and 263%, respectively, compared to the preceding year) on the back of support for the exploration of overseas markets for marine products.

The Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Government expects the export to these countries to continue to increase through efforts to publicize them, since they have a stable consumption market.
