Namgung Yeong, Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs of Chungcheongnam-do, visited China to strengthen exchanges among local governments.

For participation in the 2nd Korea-China-Japan local government cooperation meeting and reinforced exchanges and cooperation with Chinese local governments, Vice Governor Namgung went to China for a 5-night, 6-day business trip from August 28th to September 2nd. The visit by Vice Governor Namgung was made possible by invitation from Jilin Province, a long-time friendly cooperation organization with Chungcheongnam-do, and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which had no previous exchange with Korean local governments.

Mr. Namgung first visited Jilin Province on August 31st to make a presentation at the 2nd Korea-China-Japan local government cooperation meeting on ways to cooperate at the local government level. During this visit, Mr. Namgung met with Liu Guozhong, Governor of Jilin Province, requesting his attendance at the 2017 World Ginseng Expo Geumsan and proposing exchanges and cooperation in a variety of areas between the two local governments.

On August 28th and 29th, he visited the Inner Autonomous Region to see Ai Lihua, Vice-Chairman of the External Affairs Office, for a discussion on ways to facilitate exchange and communication. The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region never previously had any exchange with a Korean local government, so this visit is expected to enable Chungcheongnam-do to preoccupy a superior position in the friendly relation with the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the future.

A representative of Chungcheongnam-do stated, “Though the relationship between Korea and China is currently quite rough due to the ongoing political, military issues, exchange activities between local governments…as Vice Governor Namgung will reinforce the exchanges between the two nations’ local governments, it is also expected to provide a new way for their improved relationship.”
