Location

Chungcheongnam-do is geographically located in the middle of Northeast Asia, spanning the northern latitudes of N 35° 58'~ 37° 03' and the eastern longitudes of 125° 32' ~ 127° 38. Chungcheongnam-do is located in the middle of South Korea, serving as a major transportation hub and a gateway for three southern provinces that connect with route 1 towards Seoul, Busan, and Mokpo, the railroad of the Gyeongbuline and Honam line, the Gyeongbu and Honam Highways, and the Gyeongbu and Honam rapid transit railways, and the West Coast Highway. It takes approximately an hour to the capital of Korea, Seoul, and about three hours driving to Busan or Mokpo.

Area

The total area of Chungcheongnam-do is 8,226㎢ as of 2017, making up 8.2% of the entire area in Korea (100,339 ㎢). It is the sixth largest province after Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gangwon-do, Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, and Gyeonggi-do. As for areas in cities or counties, Gongju-si has the largest area, 864.1 ㎢, and Gyeryong-si has the smallest area, 60.7 ㎢.

Chungcheongnam-do is located in the center of the Korean peninsula and it has 15 local cities (si) and counties (gun) : Cheonan-si, Gongju-si, Boryeong-si, Asan-si, Seosan-si, Nonsan-si, Gyeryong-si, Dangjin-si, Geumsan-gun, Buyeo-gun, Seocheon-gun, Cheongyang-gun, Hongseong-gun, Yesan-gun, and Taean-gun.
